About Malai

Malai is an ice cream company that draws inspiration from South Asian inspired whole ingredients and unexpected twists on classics. Our super-premium ice cream is handcrafted, eggless, and churned with very little air, resulting in purer, more robust flavors, as well as the lightest, creamiest textures you can find.

Malai is an ice cream shop in Brooklyn, New York. It is listed at 268 Smith St, Brooklyn, NY 11231, which places it among the local businesses of Brooklyn that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

American bakeries range from wholesale operations that supply restaurants to neighborhood shops that sell bread, pastries, cookies and cakes over the counter, and many of them also pour coffee. Bagel shops boil and bake on site and sell out of favorite flavors by late morning; donut shops open before dawn and are often family-run; patisseries and cake studios take custom orders for weddings and birthdays and usually need one to two weeks' notice. Ice cream parlors, gelato shops and frozen yogurt bars are seasonal in the northern states and year-round in the South and on the West Coast. Prices are posted per item, by the dozen or by the pound, and most shops now take cards and mobile payment.

Hours are published for 7 days a week. On most of those days it is open 12–10 pm. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. The listed phone number is (347) 763-0010. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, malai.co.

Brooklyn is in New York, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Brooklyn is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New York's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

STAR RATINGS Overall: 5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 DESCRIPTION One of my favorite ice cream spots in Brooklyn, and I keep coming back. What makes Malai special is the flavors: they're genuinely unique, many rooted in South Asian flavor traditions, and they never stop impressing me. On my visits I've worked through several and each one delivered, from rose with cinnamon roasted almonds and masala chai to saffron pistachio, cardamom pistachio crumble, and the guava chili for a little heat. These aren't flavors you find just anywhere, and they're beautifully made. The customer service is another reason I return. The staff are friendly and welcoming every time, which makes the whole experience easy and enjoyable. A couple of practical notes so you know what to expect. This is a small shop, so it's best thought of as a grab-and-go spot rather than a place to sit with a group. Seating is very limited, and there's no public restroom or place to wash hands. Parking is also tough, but that comes with the territory in this part of Brooklyn, so walking or transit is the easier way to get here. None of that takes away from what matters most: creative, delicious ice cream and great se

Adding this to one of my fav gelato spots. Creative menu with great tasting scoops. They also have pints, ice cream sandwiches and more. Wholesome and friendly energy all around between the owner, Pooja, and her staff.

I bought the cardamom ice-cream cake from Malaai Brooklyn NY through Gold Belly. It was not worth the expense. Not only was the size small, the flavor and quality were poor. No rose flavor. Just a pink oversweet cinnamony frozen slushy milk. I was very disappointed. The "cake" was extremely dense and there was barely any ice-cream. The flavors were rose at the bottom and chai in the middle with inedible dry rose petals on top of a weird and old tasting icing layer. The chai ice cream was old, had an icy mouth feel and was not a full layer. Looks like they ran out. So they mixed dense pieces of the "cake" haphazardly to create that layer. All in all was extremely disappointed. The only positive thing that I can say is that the ice-cream cake arrived on time well frozen.

Really wanted to try this place so drove 45 min and it was definitely worth it! I had the saffron kulfi pop and loved it. Also tried the gulab jamun soft serve and masala chai, they were good too.

My new favorite ice cream spot (sorry Morgansterns). The saffron pistachio icecream is the best flavor ive ever had. The cinnamon rose was also fantastic. High recommend to trek out to brooklyn for this! But kniw that the flavors rotate around so might not have everything Edit: the corn saffron flavor and Apricot Mace is super great too. I would skip on the guava chili (too spicy), the masala chai flavor, and the cilantro mint flavor.
